To maintain social distancing and other preventive health strategies related to COVID-19 Employee Orientation for Faculty, Staff and Management is being offered in an alternate format. Please read below to learn more about New Employee Orientation for your specific role.


Faculty Orientation – Access On Demand

This on-demand presentation provides new faculty with information about UA benefits and the opportunity to understand and enroll in UA benefit programs. These programs allow you to save money now and later using tax deferred savings programs, tax savings spending accounts, and retirement plans. New employees have 30 days from their date of hire to enroll in benefits.

-Access  Benefits Orientation, and find information in UA’s Benefit Guide, including how to enroll using BenefitFocus, UA’s enrollment portal. (pg. 43)
-Present Dependent Documentation substantiating eligibility in order to enroll a dependent in any of our health, dental, or vision insurance plans.
-Review myBama and Banner Self-Service Instructions to set-up account, update directory, set up direct deposit and tax forms, submit information, acknowledge Employee Acknowledgement Form (EAF) and Intellectual Property Agreement (IPA).


*The University of Alabama requires employees to be paid by direct deposit. If you fail to set up direct deposit, your check will be mailed to the local mailing address on file in our payroll system. Pay checks will not be available for pick-up. You can set up direct deposit or update your local mailing address on the Employee tab of myBama.

Staff Orientation – Request Learning Plan

This virtual Learning Plan provides an overview of The University of Alabama mission and strategic plan, and introduces new staff to the resources, work-life benefits, policies and expectations that make UA a great place to work. New and current staff moving to a benefits eligible status should participate within thirty days of their official date of hire or status change. New employees have 30 days from their date of hire to enroll in benefits.

-Request your New Staff Orientation Learning Plan – LP at HRLearningandDevelopment@ua.edu or 205-348-9700. Employee or supervisor can submit request.
-Receive notification from UA LMS and HR Learning & Development containing your Learning Plan. Notification will be sent to  your official UA email.
-Complete components of Learning Plan including Orientation and Benefits presentation, and review of myBama and Banner Self-Service Instructions.
-Set up myBama account to update directory, set up direct deposit/tax forms, submit information, acknowledge Employee Acknowledgement Form (EAF) and Intellectual Property Agreement (IPA).

Management Orientation – Register To Participate

This monthly offering, now presented via Zoom, provides new supervisors and managers with an overview of how to better understand and achieve University expectations; their responsibilities for compliance with key University requirements; and an overview of key departments and functions that may be a resource.

-Register at ualms.ua.edu (UA’s online learning portal) or select New Management Orientation.
